News from March 18, 2008 meeting

We're continuing our post-conference trend of many visitors and many readers. Last night we had seven announced visitors, and we heard over 18 readers in four reading rooms.

The stats:

Rejections: 7

Submissions: Sonja Cassella and Kyle White reported submissions.

Acceptances:
Alex Martinez received another offer for his new book, Andy Valentine will have an article on computer crime in the 2008 ABA Handbook; Curtis Bales' English publisher requested two manuscripts; Kyle White had several articles accepted; Shane Gupton had ad revenue for the first time on his blog.

Announcements:


2007 Barbara Wilson Award:


Each year we honor one writer in the DFWWW for having the most published short pieces. To enter, give to Joan McCord a list of all published pieces, with tear sheets showing you name, the publication, and the date. Entries are due by the end of April.

Writer's League of Texas Conference


The DFWWW hopes to send a delegation of our members to the biggest writer's conference in Texas, held in Austin June 20-22. We plan to carpool and some may share rooms. See Sonja Cassella to find out more.

2008 Short Fiction and Poetry Contest

Ally Haldren will be in charge of the 2008 contests. She will need two volunteers to help. If you are interested in being on the committee, see Ally.

We have secured initial officers for next spring's conference. They will be:

April 30 - Board Meeting. 6 p.m.

May 7 - May Business Meeting. The business meeting will be held at the beginning of the regular meeting at 7 p.m.

April 12 & every second Saturday - North Texas Speculative Fiction Workshop meets every 2nd Saturday at the North Richland Hills Barnes & Noble at 6 pm, free & open to all SF/F/H writers. 

Every Wednesday - Regular Workshop meeting. Details

Every Wednesday - After-meeting gathering at IHOP.
From right after the meeting until 11 or 11:30 p.m., members gather for a late dinner or just a cup of coffee and conversation. Guests and members are welcome. Directions from the meeting location

April 16 & every third Wednesday - Poetry night at the regular meeting. Members interested in writing poetry will split off into a separate group during critiques.
