Pen Computing Magazine seeks submissions relating to pen computing technology, PDAs and mobile and wireless computing. Submissions can be in the form of columns, reviews, opinions or feature articles about certain topics. Submissions should not have been published elsewhere, unless agreed to by the editor-in-chief.
~Deadline is Nov. 15. The 2007 Georgetown Review Contest -- $1,000 prize and publication to the winning short story, poem or essay on the subject of change or transformation.
A Cup of Comfort for Single MothersFor this collection of personal essays celebrating single mothers, we seek uplifting true stories about the joys and the difficulties of single mothering. The majority of stories selected for publication will be written from the single mother's point of view, but we will also consider stories written by the children of single mothers as well as by third parties with intimate knowledge of (and the permission of) the single mother and her child(ren).
Deadline is Nov. 30, 2006 New Issues Poetry & Prose and Western Michigan University announce The New Issues Poetry Prize. $2,000 and publication for a first book of poems.
Here's the latest issue of The Critique for your reading enjoyment. Thanks to member Lisa Mrazik for putting together yet another fine issue. Wednesday night, sadly, was Lisa's last meeting with the Workshop. She's moving to Io... Illi... one of those states that starts with I. Lisa has generously donated a lot of her time and energy to the Workshop, organizing events and putting out The Critique. Thanks for everything, Lisa!
Carolyn Williamson Speaks
I'm giving a talk titled Eating Healthy and Enjoying It and signing copies of my book, There IS Life After Lettuce at Diabetic Designs on this coming Saturday between 11 a.m. and 1p.m. My talk will be only twenty minutes, but I will have samples of banana bread made from a recipe in my cookbook.If you are in the neighborhood of 6623 North Beach in Fort Worth at Diabetic Designs store, I'd love to see you there. Two big Workshop events coming up in October
October will be a big month for the Workshop, with two events you won't want to miss. On Wednesday, Oct. 11, the Workshop is having its 250-book celebration at 7 p.m. at its regular meeting time and location. This party will mark the Workshop's achievement of 250 published books. The DFW Writers Workshop is a great place for authors working to get published to hone their craft and learn the ins and outs of the business. Everyone is encouraged to bring a food item or dessert to the party. Also at this event, the winners of the Workshop's short story and poetry competition will be announced. On Saturday, Oct. 21, the competition winners will read their works to an audience at Barnes & Noble in North Richland Hills. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Thanks to Barnes & Noble for hosting us. We look forward to seeing you there.
Texas Book Festival Oct 27 - 29 2006 http://www.texasbookfestival.org/The Texas Book Festival presents free readings, talks, and panels at the Texas State Capitol in downtown Austin on Saturday, October 28th and Sunday, October 29th with some of the most acomplished writers from both Texas and the nation. The Book Festival also has a program featuring children's book authors.
