Good news! No change to meeting time for 2008

We had thought we were going to have to change our meeting schedule for 2008 and get out of the center an hour earlier, which would have made it difficult for us to get all our critiques done.

I'm happy to report we won a reprieve. Meetings will continue at the ordinary time of 7-10 p.m. next year. Many thanks to the City of Euless for years of generous support.

Conference hotel to be Baymont Inn

The Baymont Inn will be our hotel for the DFW Writers' Conference, Feb., 23-24, 2008 at the Grapevine Convention Center. They have extended a courtesy rate of $99 a night for a king or double room (if you reserve both Friday and Saturday night). There are a limited number of rooms available under this rate so make your reservations soon! The deadline is Jan. 22.

We'll start bright and early Saturday and Sunday. Some of us live quite a ways away from Grapevine. If you don't want to have to rush all the way from home in the morning, consider staying at the hotel.

Meeting time changes in 2008

Due to a rule change by the city of Euless, we will be required to end our meetings by 9 p.m. in 2008.

This will require some adjustments so we can get in as many critiques as possible. We'll start the meetings at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday instead of 7 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes members who have to drive across the Metroplex in rush hour traffic to get to the meeting. We'll look the other way if people walk in a few minutes late.

We'll do our utmost to get the business stuff and first break out of the way by 7:15 p.m. and dive right into critiqes. Each person will still have 20 minutes total. With break time and cleanup, this means we'll fit in only four reads per room. So we'll most likely end up splitting into four and sometimes even five rooms instead of the usual two or three.

If we work together and don't dawdle, we should still be able to have very productive meetings in the allotted time. We'll still work to get our old closing time back, but in the meantime let's give this new situation a try.
