Workshop Members Pitch to the
Fogelman Literary Agency

Evan Fogelman and Helen Brown of the Fogelman Literary Agency spoke to members of the DFW Writers' Workshop Saturday, January 10, and interviewed those who wished to present their work for potential representation.
….Fogelman, a member of the Association of Authors Representatives, was categorically opposed to author-paid fees to agents and agencies.  He also gave advice on selecting potential editors, "At a writer's conference, if you sit down and talk to an editor, spend one minute of your time to ask who they've published lately.  If their list of published writers bears no resemblance to what you write, move on.  They're not the right editor for you."  For first-time authors, he advised concentrating on those agencies and publishers who market new authors' books.
….Brown, an associate member of the AAR, spoke on query letters and other nuts and bolts of developing author-agent relationships. "Research the agency.  Look at their website, and if it doesn't give you the information you need to know, then call the agent to find out their area of concentration.  Address your query directly to the agent who represents your genre." 
….The eighteen Workshop members who interviewed were encouraged to submit manuscripts.  Fiction genres
