The Reject Award We celebrate rejection because it means you're submitting
your work
Writers have to do two things to get published: Write, and then submit what
they write. The only 100% percent sure way to never get published is never to
submit your work to an agent or editor.
That's why at every meeting, the DFW Writers Workshop celebrates not only
member acceptances, but also their rejections.
Now we've decided to
honor the spurned, the downtrodden, the glum with a monthly Reject Award, a
certificate signed by the workshop president.
The member who announces the most rejections at Workshop meetings during a
given month will win that month's Reject Award and the esteem of his or her
peers.
The certificate reads, "In Recognition that the quest to become published
involves repeatedly exposing oneself to the risk of disappointment, humiliation
and self-doubt; and that the surest way to remain unpublished is never to submit
one's work; the DFW Writer's Workshop hereby salutes the persistence and courage
of member [blank] and extends its congratulations with this, the Teject Award
for the month of [blank]."
So get out there and submit your work, and if it doesn't get accepted the first
time, or the first dozen times, at least you might have a shot at hanging this coveted prize
hanging on your wall!
